Some people seem blessed with all the self-assurance and knowledge of how to present a successful image in any situation. Most of us, however, have to study and cultivate it. Here are a few tips on how to project a successful image thereby improving your success in business, relationships, job interviews, whatever your heart desires.
Appearances are Not Deceiving
Your clothing should be appropriate for the occasion. If you don’t have a clue, hire a style expert and don’t forget grooming. Trim, clean nails and hair are crucial to impress.
Write and Speak Correctly
Use proper grammar when you speak, don’t bellow but don’t whisper either. Improve your vocabulary but speak like a human, not a dictionary. When writing, check your spelling and grammar before you send the communication and avoid jargon. If it is unavoidable, explain it briefly and without condescending.
Converse with Intelligence
Stay up on current events. Travel and study the culture wherever you are. Be a consummate learner. Incorporate what you’ve learned in your conversations without monopolizing them. People will be eager to hear what you have to say and discuss it with you. And don’t lecture. Listen to what others are saying and respond when appropriate.
Keep track of your tasks and follow priorities. People get irritated by disorganization no matter how important you are. They judge you by the little things, so be on time, respond quickly to emails and appear organized as well. Your personal appearance, your office, and your desk need to be neat and organized to impress others AND to help you keep from dropping important balls. Travel light with a lightweight briefcase and neat appearance.
Engage Your Client
Sincerely show respect and appreciation of your client’s time and presence by eye-contact, a firm handshake, and attentive listening. Thank them for their information, insights and their time. A client that has been shown the proper attention and respect will never forget you and be in your corner. They will promote you in the best way possible, word of mouth advertising.
It is true that we are judged by the company we keep, so surround yourself with people you admire and respect and you too, will become respected and admired. You will learn their ways, you will grow from exchanges and experiences and become the person you want to be.
